Relevance Principle

This platform is (hopefully) powerful enough to discuss everything relevant, but not to discuss everything out there. Thus, due to our limitations (life span, brain capacity, attention, etc) we should focus on relevant things. Thus, we need to focus on things that actually matter to us and not start discussions or add content that has no practical purpose. This platform is not an encyclopedia sucking in all knowledge available to humanity.

The main issue with adding irrelevant content is that it makes it harder to find and focus on the relevant parts, reducing clarity, increasing cognitive load and thus breaking the Clear And Simple Principle. The purpose of this website is finding the truth, not hording facts.

Example for thought items:

  • Normal people don't disagree that the Holocaust happened. Hence, there's no need discussing it.

Example for media items:

  • Adding movies, books or text excerpts to illustrate a point or to transfer an emotion is fine. Adding media with no relation to thoughts and turning this page into an discography or library is missing the point.
